about
This song was written on Wiradjuri land and I acknowledge all elders, past, present and emerging who have a long legacy of music and story sharing here, long before I arrived.
How do you release a song about personal grief in the midst of national and global grief? My Dad passed away the week the world turned its focus from the Australian bushfires to COVID19 and now my first song about him will be released in the midst of the BLM revolution.
Grief is a very appropriate response to 2020 and we feel it in our bodies whether we realise or not, so please as you listen to The Sweetness and the Ache, feel your grief and allow it some room.
I miss Dad so much but I rejoice in the hope that I hold so tightly, that I will see him again. The tension of hope for restoration in the midst of pain that Dad and I so often talked about is the same tension we now sit in this year.
This song is my response.
Love, Esther
